Murgatroyd Monaghan is doing a book launch for ‘white spaces where we learn to breathe’ on August 17, 2025 at Free Times Cafe in downtown Toronto. It’s free. A number of great writers and colleagues are going to be there, many of whom have never met in-person. Please come! Registration information is contained here.
I’m hosting this event. What’s that mean? I don’t know yet, but I will figure it out. What’s fantastic is that a number of people will be doing readings at this event, including Murgatroyd herself. Will I read something? Will I simply tell dad jokes? Will I be at all sober up there? I don’t really know. I play everything by ear, seriously. All that I can say is that I’m honoured to host, in support of Murgatroyd. I’ve known her online for a while. I’ve read her words. I’ve loved her words. I learn from her. I am inspired by her. I’m inspired by her kids. The world could use more people like this.
I am in the process of reading her book, as I have an advanced copy. It’s riveting and I don’t fully know how to do it justice, but I’m going to post a review before the event. As always, will be as honest as possible. By the way, Murgatroyd’s publisher, Marion Lougheed, will be there – another person I’ve always wanted to meet.
If longtime friends are out there reading this and you at all can make it to Toronto, please come! I will buy you a drink and I will absolutely promise that I will be ecstatically happy to meet you in person! Together, we will listen to some amazing words from great writers. As a recluse, it’s not something I imagine doing, but it’s something I’m looking forward to. I’m going to promise not to disappoint!

Would love to make it, but have too many other plans around the same time and no $$ in the ol’ wallet.
Well… if you find a way somehow, you can stay at my place, so avoid hotels. And I’ll buy you drinks!
